My Eastbourne test, 7 November 2026
What Google’s AI recommends in Eastbourne.
I asked Google 13 questions a customer in Eastbourne might ask, from “best plumber in Eastbourne” to “can you recommend a good accountant in Eastbourne”, and recorded every AI answer. Here is what decided who got named.
of 13 Eastbourne searches brought an AI answer, including all three asked as questions
of the 24 businesses named in those answers came with their Google Business Profile
Google reviews for the typical business named. The fewest was nine
| What I found | What it means for your business |
|---|---|
| All three searches written as questions brought an AI answer, such as “which estate agent should I use in Eastbourne”. Three of the ten that began “best” did. | Customers who type a full question now meet an AI answer first, so your business needs to be one it can name. |
| 23 of the 24 businesses named appeared with their Google Business Profile: rating, review count, address and phone. The other was quoted from its Checkatrade profile. | Your Google Business Profile is what Google’s AI reads first. A complete, accurate and active profile gives it the most to work with. |
| Every business shown with a profile had at least nine Google reviews, and the typical one had 69. | Reviews are part of the shortlist. A steady flow of them keeps you on it. |
| For plumbers and roofers, the AI answer opened with the same three businesses as the map. A fourth plumber, outside the map, was named with its own page about working in Eastbourne as the source. | Local SEO and AI visibility are the same work, and a page for each area you cover gives AI one more way to find you. |
| Six of the sources Google quoted were businesses’ own web pages, and five of them had Eastbourne in the page title. The boiler cost question was answered from pages that set out prices plainly. | Pages that say where you work and what things cost are the pages AI quotes. |
How I ran it: 13 Google searches on 7 November 2026, set to Eastbourne, on desktop and non-personalised, collected through SE Ranking. Ten asked for the best local business in a trade, three were written as questions. Google changes its answers often, so treat this as a snapshot of one day. Ask me what it means for your business.

7 questions
AI search questions, answered.
What is AI search visibility?
It is how often, and how accurately, AI tools name your business when someone asks them for a recommendation. ChatGPT, Google’s AI answers, Copilot and Gemini answer questions like “can you recommend a good accountant in Eastbourne?” with a short list of names, and the businesses on that list get the call.
Is AI search visibility different from SEO?
It builds on the same foundations. AI tools read your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your website and the directories you are listed on, which is the work good SEO and local SEO already cover. What I add is shaping your profile and pages so AI tools can quote them easily.
Where does ChatGPT get its recommendations from?
From many sources at once, including its own index of the web, Google’s results and Maps listings, Bing, Yelp and TripAdvisor. My guide to getting ChatGPT to recommend your business covers the five steps to take first.
How long does it take to show up in AI answers?
Updates to your Google Business Profile and listings can be picked up within weeks. A stronger review record and new pages build over three to six months, and lift your Google visibility along the way.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
I guarantee the work and complete transparency about it. Each AI tool decides its own answers and changes them from day to day, so I report on the figures that hold steady: your calls and enquiries, and your visibility on Google and Bing, which AI tools draw on.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
Your time is better spent on your Google profile, reviews and service pages. When Otterly AI tested one for twelve months, it drew 0.1% of their AI bot traffic, as I report in my brightonSEO takeaways. I note whether you have one and put the effort where AI tools actually look.
Which areas do you cover?
I'm based in Eastbourne and work with businesses across East Sussex, including Hailsham and Hastings and St Leonards.
